VERITY & SCOTT’S LOVE STORY

written by our Lincs Weddings real bride Verity

THE LOVE STORY

Our love story is fairly simple, we were first-year flatmates at the University of Lincoln, lived together the whole time and eventually got our own place in Oxford in 2018 where we now live and work with our cat, Emerald. We were engaged in 2020, under the stars while staying in a Shepherds Hut and decided to get married back where it all began after 10 years together!

The wedding story, however, was not the smooth sailing that we were expecting it to be. We were due to be married on the 24th June 2023 and just 8 weeks before our wedding, our original venue had to cancel due to over-running renovations.

Thankfully, The Doubletree By Hilton had the date free (by some miracle!) and we planned one of the quickest wedding turnarounds to get everything sorted. All of our suppliers couldn’t do enough to support us during this change, from holding dates to offering moral support. They were all incredible and we wouldn’t have had our amazing day without them! We had a celestial theme and the Hilton had some amazing standard decor that really played into our theme.

THE VENUE

The Doubletree By Hilton in Lincoln wasn’t the venue we originally wanted. We had gone from an independent character property to a modern business hotel. In just 8 weeks, we had to try and re-envision the wedding we had been dreaming of, especially since we were now working with a much larger space. However, The Doubletree By Hilton made it perfect. Anna and the team were incredibly accommodating and made changes to their packages to suit what we had originally hoped for. Jake, our Master of Ceremonies, was absolutely incredible on the day. All of our guests spoke about how fabulous he was, and his 25k steps at the end proved how much he ran around for us! The staff couldn’t do enough for us and the whole day ended up being perfect. We even ended up overlooking the accommodation where Scott and I first met. The food was impressive, the rooms were fantastic, and they even provided us and our guests with a private room for breakfast the next day. We felt like celebrities because all the staff seemed to know us!

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Andy from AWPhotographic is the exact person you want to photograph your wedding day. Relaxed, cheerful and upbeat. He seemed genuinely excited for us. All we knew from our photos was that we wanted some shots of us up at the cathedral. This was easy when we were at our original venue but now required more logistics. Andy graciously offered to drive us up there to take the pressure off. AWPhotographic’s photos were gorgeous, capturing the candid moments that we so wanted rather than the forced, posed images. The group images were relaxed and enjoyable (and didn’t go on for too long either!)

MAKEUP

Estera from Kokosha was incredible! I had never had my makeup done professionally before and she did an amazing job of my vague description of “well me, but better and some sparkle”. Such a kind individual, who also helped my Mum with her confidence as someone who never really wears makeup. She was also such a speedy worker – no worries about having to overrun here! The weather was an incredibly hot on our wedding day and the makeup stayed PERFECT.

HAIR

Robyn from Perfect Silhouette Hairdressing is such a character to have on your wedding day. Honestly, I felt like she was one of my bridesmaids! So cheery for 6am in the morning and kept everyones energies up. She even stays right until you’re going to the ceremony. Robyn recorded a beautiful video of my Dad & Step-Dad having a first look! The hair was gorgeous and again, survived the heat, aside from losing a couple of lose curls (but I don’t think anything was going to stop that from happening)!

CAKE

The Cake Queen Lincoln did an amazing job in creating our celestial cake. It tasted incredible, with a perfect balance of icing and cake which I usually find ends up being too sweet for me. The cake was three-tiered and featured a starry night design, with a small monument to our beloved cat. We received so many compliments on the cake, and hardly any was left at the end of the night. We mainly communicated with Zoe over Zoom because we live in Oxford, so we didn’t have the chance to meet her in person. We also trusted Zoe to put the cake together whilst we were getting ready. Isn’t that a sign of a true professional?! We left her to it and she created a dreamy cake for us.

DECOR

Myweddinghire were recommended by our original venue, and so all our decor discussions were around that space. With the change, they were so accommodating to adapting what we had requested to suit the new space and without their starry backdrops, our celestial night wouldn’t have been completed. They also provided the chair covers, sashes and love letters. We had complete faith in them and loved how everything turned out on the day.

FLOWERS

Alison and her team at Chambers Florists are magicians. We had no clue what we wanted for flowers, aside from a theme of colours. We spoke to Alison for a good couple of years and she always kept us in mind, buying bits and pieces that she saw which she thought would suit our theme (including some giant wicker stars)! The work she did was phenomenal and we even got a sneak peek the day before and I started to cry! The vases and bouquets smelt incredible on the day. Nothing was too big or too small for Alison, she really thought of everything.

TOP TIP

Our final tips are to not sweat about the small stuff! We spent two years planning our wedding for the worst thing to happen. Anyway, it all turned out perfectly in the end! Trust the views of your suppliers, both to support you with difficulties, but also if the decision making seems too much. The main thing is, that it is YOUR DAY! Enjoy celebrating your love and we hope your day is as incredible as ours was (and hopefully the lead up will be far less stressful!!)
